About Us
NEXTGEN is a youth and community development non-governmental organization that works to empower youth through skill Acquisition, talent development and value reorientation. At the community level, we engage to address health issues and developmental needs by working with other organizations, such as funders and the CSDP. We train Community-based committees on advocacy and approaches to meeting their community's needs.
We have embarked on the renovation, facelift and supply of equipment to
Community-based PHCs often preceded by comprehensive training of health workers
(which often includes the TBAs in most cases) Nine (9) PHCs have so far been
renovated and provided with tools while 400 primary healthcare workers have had
their capacities built in maternal and child health, HIV and Cancer programming and
screening. Another area we have solved a community problem is the provision of a
community library in Ewu community, Esan Central LGA of Edo State in 2012. The library
still runs till today, providing educational support services to teeming youth of the
community.
We have held various sensitization and enlightenment programs with young people within Nigeria and other countries like Uganda and Zimbabwe that addressed issues around human trafficking, HIV/AIDS/STIL COVID-19, Cancer, Drug Abuse, Sex/Teenage Pregnancy, Gender-Based Violence, and mental health, among other issues that affect adolescents and youth. We have also trained youth in Leadership and volunteerism, funded by LEAP Africa, which reached out to 250 youths.
NEXTGEN has held well-attended, enlightening community engagement meetings in Edo, Delta and Imo States where locals have been educated in issues of health, especially maternal and child health, HIV Mental health and Cancer Our efforts have led to a dramatic drop in patronage of TB As for facility-based services, this leads to a general improvement in maternal and child health in communities. NEXTGEN has had clubs and raised and trained peer educators for their health awareness projects at the community level. We work with superior health facilities for referral purposes
NEXTGEN has an SDG unit that has created awareness among young people and rural dwellers on the roles they can play in achieving the SDOS, A very critical issue for us is the SDGs 5 & 6 on health and climate change respectively We have planted over 400 trees in schools and churches as practical demonstration after our campaigns, including an educational app and website on the SDGs Young people have been trained on app creation, web maintenance, digital skills, and soft skills NEXTGEN has capable and experienced staff and team of volunteers who are
passionate.
We look forward to consolidating impacts and reaching out to Eastern part of Nigeria including Delta, Imo, Abla, Enugu and Anambra States. We look to working with farmers in promoting climate-smart agriculture and other empowerment areas.
